What a wonderful experience!  You have created a beautiful environment and a peaceful retreat!  Your breakfasts were a real treat.  My favorite was the zucchini quiche!  I hope next time to actually walk all the trails and paint some of the beautiful views!  I agree with the ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ rating!  Thank you both so much!
Karen,   Kyle, TX  March 2012

Oh my gosh!  What a retreat!  I was in heaven.  Your hospitality was grand, cooking superb & compassion genuine.  From the cleaning of my carpet of the turpentine – an artist’s nightmare to the heating pad for my migraine – what else could you have done – so kind.  Loved Bosco also.
Kathy,  Kyle, TX   March 2012

WOW!  What an amazing weekend Bobby and I had celebrating our 12-yr anniversary.

As many of the guests have stated, the décor in the cabin is remarkable.  It is obvious you have put much thought into setting up this home away from home.  Having our breakfast delivered to our door in the basket was such a treat. Both mornings the food was very fresh and delicious.

We both enjoyed walking on the trails and being able to sit along the paths to watch the birds at the feeding stations.  You have taken steps to ensure visitors will have the opportunity to see lots of beautiful birds.  It is apparent, you love the birds and they loved the home you have made for them. We heard many happy birds singing while on our walks.

Typically when we take a trip away from home, we are more than ready to get back home.  But this time, we don’t want to leave.  We will definitely return.

After our stay, we are relaxed, rejuvenated and reconnected.  Thank you for such a wonderful experience.  God bless you.

Thank you for providing us with an escape from the world.  It was just what we needed!  The breakfasts were marvelous!  We very much enjoyed hiking the trails, watching the birds and listening to their sweet, soothing sounds.  We would love to have stayed much longer & will certainly want to return if we come back to Texas.

May God bless you both and your awesome B&B!
Pat & Len, Minnetonka, MN,  March 2012

Thank you Patti & Patrick for your warm hospitality.  Our time here will long be remembered.  I (Maria) couldn’t decide what I like most about Songbird Meadows – the rustic, charming cabin so beautifully decorated, the delicious breakfast or the trails that took us on a journey.  Most of all, we are grateful that we were witnesses to God’s grace and how he took the pain of losing a child and recreate it and make it into a healing sanctuary.

We enjoyed every minute and morsel of our stay and hope one day to return.

Everything was so perfect here @ Songbird Meadows!  We got to be a part of my best friend’s wedding out here and it was Songbird’s first wedding here in the lovely hill country!  Thanks so much to Patti and Patrick for everything!  Their hospitality is unmatched and they are some of the nicest people we have met!  The breakfast was amazing every morning and the bed gave us a ‘perfect’ night’s sleep!  It was so nice to be able to relax with my husband and get away from the hectic city of Houston. You can truly feel the Holy Spirit all around you here!  We can’t wait to come back in a few months!  Thanks again.
Lindsay & Johnathan, Houston, TX  February 2012

“Wedding Weekend”  This was the weekend we had our wedding and stayed in this cabin.  Everything was beautiful & weather was perfect.  A little bit chilly but perfect.  Patti & Patrick are so awesome and they feel like they are a part of our family.  This is the 2nd time staying here and we have fallen in love & will be back regularly for sure!  It’s so warm and cozy & from the moment we arrive we feel relaxed and at ease.  The breakfast is out of this world & the nature amazing.  We love you guys.
Ashley & Joel, Katy, TX February 2012

We sure enjoyed this visit to Songbird Meadows!  While we were here it rained enough to fill the beautiful pond – what a treat.  We could hear wild turkeys down by the water.  We saw many deer and of course numerous bird species.
The hospitality was above and beyond – thank you!  And the breakfasts yummy as well as beautiful!
Slept so well in that comfy, comfy bed.  This is just a great place to be all around.

WOW!  What a fantastic weekend!  Who would have thought we could survive without tv/dvd, laptops, & cell phones?  Even though it rained all day Saturday that was even relaxing to hear it falling on the tin roof.  We were able to get away from the hustle and bustle of Houston and just relax…. Listen to the sounds of nature.  Thank you so much for the wonderful breakfasts and warm hospitality.  We look forward to visiting again. Blessings.
Bethany & Shawn,  Houston, TX  February 2012

It has been so long since we did anything together just for us.  The Lord must have had a hand in helping us find this place because it was everything we wanted in a retreat to rejuvenate, recharge and reconnect.  It is what we thought of as a little slice of heaven.  From the birds, rabbits and of course the gorgeous turkey in the front yard, this place is an absolute treasure.  Thank God for places like this.  It would not be possible without all of our men and women who fight and die to allow us to have places like this.  Thank God for your son and the many others.  We so look forward to coming back and staying here at the Chickadee Cottage.  Beautiful place, beautiful people ☺

We enjoyed our stay so much.  The cabin was just lovely & cozy – it was a perfect getaway for my mom & I.
Your breakfast was delicious & the cookies were a welcome delight!!

It looks as if you two have found your calling.  We will be back and I plan on having Bobby with me next time!

Shelly,  Rockport, Tx  December 2011

What an amazing job you have done!  It's beautiful up here in the wilderness….  Can only imagine how much more when we ever get out of this drought.  I love, love the cabins – the décor & all of the touches – home away from home and then some!  Best wishes throughout this new adventure.  I'm sure that you’ll love it as will everyone who comes here.
Audra,  Rockport, Tx  December 2011

Your website promises a serene sanctuary & that's just what this place is.

One of my favorite inspirational songs talks about "returning to the land of your soul."  You have created the perfect place to do that.

What a great idea is the china-throwing spot.  I didn't need it after 24hrs in this nurturing place, but I'm thinking about setting up on in my backyard!

I loved everything about the cabin… the cozy furniture, the unexpected sink in the bathroom, the little couch (just perfect for two) & all the little touches (like the Christmas tree).

I also enjoyed the reading material, especially "My Master’s Touch".

Mark & I were looking for some breathing space where we could totally put aside the stress of our present work situations…. A place where we could get back to who we are and just concentrate on enjoying each other….. and guess what?   We found it!  We will definitely be back.  Thank you so much.   P.S.  The breakfasts were the "frosting on the cake"

The evening at Songbird Meadows was relaxing & just the get-a-way we needed.  Sometimes getting back to nature and enjoying God's beauty is what keeps our lives in perspective!  Thank you for allowing us the time here & for your amazing hospitality.

This was a wonderful getaway for my husband and I.  Everything was perfect.  Patti & Patrick’s breakfasts were delicious.  I felt like home-away from our home.  This place is a 5 star in my book.  Love to come back soon.
Chris & Sandi,   Magnolia, Tx   November 2011

What a perfect experience this was for us.  We absolutely adored the cabin and the décor.  Not only was it a relaxing and enjoyable get away, but it gave us the peace we were seeking.  Thank You Patti & Patrick for creating one of the best B&B’s one could ask for.  We certainly will be back again.  You’ve done an excellent job!
Van & Mary,  San Antonio, Tx   November 2011

Thank you for making this  place a sanctuary, an escape to enjoy God’s creation.  This is our place of healing & restoration.  May God Bless you now & in the future. P.S. The breakfast was amazing!!!  Thank you.
Susan & Joe,   Burnet, Tx.  November 2011

Thank you for a wonderful stay!  Your hospitality could not have been better.  Debora & I loved the bird feeding stations and especially the photo blind.  I added the Western Scrub Jay and Spotted Towhee to my life list and hopefully have a least one printable photo of each to back to FL/MI with.

The breakfasts were fabulous! We loved the décor of the cottage and especially the collection of hummingbird photos by P.Mclead a rising star in the bird photography world.  Great work!

Deb loved the wind chimes.  We will be back!

WOW!  What a gracious and much needed answer to prayer!

Patti & Patrick, I can't thank you enough for the gourmet breakfast, the sharing of your dream with my new family & I and the many returns to "Songbird Meadows".

This place is my 'miracle'.  The lyrics and tunes that were given to me here are forever priceless.  My first of many trips to the Hill Country!!!!

You two will never truly know what you have been to me over the years, just honored to see you flourish & grow.  Ready for the book, Patti.

I truly want to thank the two of you for the wonderful Thanksgiving weekend.  The décor in this cabin is beautiful.  The hospitality was off the charts.   You are an amazing cook.  Chris will have to go on a diet after your amazing breakfasts.  I have lots of friends that look for quiet getaways so you will be at the top of my referrals.  You truly have a remarkable place & we’ll be back to visit again.  Thank you.

Today is our 7th wedding anniversary and we truly cannot think of a better way to have celebrated it.  This is also our first getaway since our honeymoon and therefore our first overnight trip away from our 2 children.  Though we just 'happened upon' the website for Songbird Meadows, we know that nothing happens by chance.  That we ended up in this most perfect location with such abundant nature, perfect weather, overwhelming peacefulness and a beautiful, cozy cottage…. It was surely "meant to be".

Thank you, Patrick & Patti for your hospitality and love of people & nature.  You are both such a blessing from God.
Terry & Andrea   Magnolia, Texas   October 2011

Thank you, thank you for hosting us at your peaceful, beautiful retreat.  We enjoyed every moment here, and would like to return soon.  The breakfasts were delicious, too!  Songbird Meadows is a fitting and loving tribute to Garrett and his fellow soldiers.  Jane and I were inspired by the love, kindness and peace radiating all around us here.
Jim & Jane   Houston, Tx   October 2011

"Be still and know that He is God."  God’s amazing creation is all around us here.  You have created a place of rest, relaxation and peace here and we are so thankful for that.

The tribute to your son and those who gave their life for our freedom is a solemn reminder…"Freedom is never Free!"  I can only imagine your deep loss, and feel your profound pride in his life.

Thank you again for allowing us to get away and focus on what is most important… the one’s we love.

We will be back soon.   P.S.  Breakfast was awesome too!
Damon & Mitzi,   Spring, Tx   October 2011

We were so lucky to discover Songbird Meadows – everything about the stay was just about perfect – from the roses & champagne for my wife’s birthday to the bed (very comfortable) and, well, the breakfast.

My wife loved how clean everything was, and she was impressed by the toileties.

We enjoyed our stay – we’ll be back.
Kelly & Jennifer,   Plano, Tx   October 2011

What a lovely place!!! I love everything about it.  I am so glad that we found Songbird Meadows!  The breakfast was delicious.  We certainly did enjoy our relaxing time here – and will be back!!  Thank you for your gracious and wonderful hospitality.
Steve & Tami,   Ft. Worth, Tx   October 2011

As usual, everything was perfect!  Wish I could stay longer – as usual!

Patti & Pat have amazing energy and passion for what they are doing.  Each time I arrive, I can hardly wait to see what they’ve been doing.  I can hardly wait until the photo blind is installed, although I enjoy just sitting at any of the critter feading stations.

To sum things up, it's all the attention to detail that makes Songbird Meadows a favorite get-away destination.  Thank you!
Ruth Hoyt, nature photographer,  Linn, Tx   October 2011

What a beautiful respite!  We love watching the birds and walking on the nature trails – and the weather was perfect.  Thank you for treating us like part of your family – from the cheerful morning greeting with hot breakfast to the going the extra mile with the hummingbird photograph.  Can’t wait to visit again and see what’s new!
Thank you and God Bless Your Ministry here.
Bill & Jenna,   Spring Branch, Tx   October 2011

This place is lovely!  Much thanks to Texas Hills Vineyard for telling us about it.  The bed was very comfortable and the breakfast was delicious!  We look forward to coming back again.  Here’s hoping for a good rain to fill that pond – I think it will be an amazing spot when it is full.

We aren’t birders, but it was nice to walk the trail and sit and listen to them.

Thank you so much for providing this wonderful retreat.  The feeling of calm and peacefulness is so needed in our busy lives.  The cottage is so darling and cozy.  After our good night's rest – to serve such a delicious breakfast was a real treat.  We are not really 'birder' but after our visit I think we could be – watching the birds and deer ws thrilling.  The memorial to your precious son and his fellow soldiers gave us pause to thank our young men and women who daily put their lives on the line for us.  We are so blessed!  Patti & Patrick – thank you for your hospitality and kindness.  Good luck and God's blessings in all you do – I want a copy of your book!!
Larry & Celeste,  Morrilton, AR    Sept. 2011

I could easily become addicted to life here at Chickadee Cottage, being  gently awakened after a great night sleep by the first rays of the morning sun streaming through the oaks outside our window, a leisurely cup of coffee on the deck and Patti, Patrick and Bosco bringing us those wonderful breakfasts!

“….. and next you’ve got the full day and everything smiling in the sun, and the song-birds just going at it!” … Mark Twain

We had a great couple of days.  Thank you.

What an amazing place you both have created here!  Far surpassed our expectations, and was amazing from start to finish.  Can't thank you both enough for such a peaceful & inspiring escape from the city.  All the best to you both, and we hope to make it back soon.

Our stay here couldn’t have been better.  You too are wonderful hosts and are always welcoming to us.  Your breakfasts are awesome or as the young'ns say now it was 'beasty'!

The memorial is breath-taking.  It is a wonderful way of honoring all of them the same!  "God’s children" & "Our Heroes".  Thanks always,

Our weekend was fantastic.  After our long drive we were greeted with hospitality.  The cabin was adorable and very cozy.  The wildlife made our mornings and evenings almost mystical.  We have fallen in love with your jackrabbit and birds.  Thank you for sharing our lovely place with us.  It was my first trip to the Hill Country and I couldn’t imagine a more perfect place to have stayed.  This lovely place melted away all the stress and tension of the everyday life we know.  The breakfast in bed was delicious and very creative.  Again, thank you.
Katrina,    Anahuac, Tx   August 2011

I had a great time!  I can’t wait to come back.  Maybe next time "Jack" the rabbit will let me get his picture.
Traci,  Anahuac, Tx    August 2011

This is our second visit.  When we first drove up, we both said, "Home."  (see June 18, 2011)  We are big winos.  We visited 4 wineries in the area and our favorite this visit was William & Chris Winery.  It’s one of the newer wineries in the Texas Hill Country.  The wines are created without machinery… handmade.  They are simply delicious.  We also made a stop by the Texas Hill Vineyard and participated in good ole grape stomping.

Our favorite "eats" so far is the Silver K Café.  The atmosphere there is warm and the food is "homey".

This beautiful place has become our home away from home.  We feel that Patti, Patrick, Bosco and Max are an extension of our family.  With that said, be sure to take care of them while you're here.
Love, Lis & Tivona          Houston, Tx    August 2011

We were looking to get away from the hustle & bustle of the everyday life.  This is the perfect get away to relax and reconnect.  We really enjoyed sitting on the porch drinking coffee & looking at the nature in the mornings & sitting in the hammock after a day of wine tasting at the local vineyards.  The cottage is so cute & cozy.  As soon as we got in we felt at home & slept so good the 1st night.  We did not want to leave to go home.  After the 1st night here we are already planning our next getaway.  Texas Hills Winery was awesome!  We became members so we will be back for sure!  We enjoyed every moment!  P.S. The breakfast was good & cute!
Ashley & Joel,  Houston, Tx  August 2011

We have had a very special weekend at Songbird Meadows.   Our hosts, Patti & Patrick made us feel like family, instead of guests.  The cabin is lovely, and the bed as comfortable as home.  The breakfast a 5 star, was the best we have had anywhere.  We will have fond memories of our time here.
Bennie & Roy,  Waco, Tx.,  August 2011

What can I say except 'thank you' to two of the most special people in my life.  This place is paradise in the hill-country and I know it is going to bring you success in a short time.  I lacked for nothing while I was here and your gracious hospitality was beyond compare.  I will tell everyone I know to come to Songbird Meadows and partake in its beauty.  Love you guys so much & may God Bless,

"What a totally relaxing time ~ especially for this old country girl!  The cabin is decorated so beautifully (& appropriately for this special weekend!).  Thanks so much for the delicious breakfasts ~ we wish the very best for our friendly hosts."
Ann & Richard,  Georgetown, Tx   July 2011

"Patti & Patrick figured out the secret – keep it nice & simple.  What a nice way to recharge the batteries.  The hardest decision we had to make was whether we should lie in the hammock and doze or sit on the porch and read.  We managed to make time for both.  Birds we saw; Painted Bunting, Tufted Titmouse, Scrub Jay, Blue Jay, cardinal, several kinds of hummingbirds, an unidentified woodpecker, and assorted others we didn’t know but enjoyed just the same.    We have a vacation home in San Antonio, and we hope we can be at least half as gracious & welcoming as Patti & Patrick!

"There are no words for what tragedy can bring to your life especially in the negative ways but there are words for the positive things and people who come into your life as a result.  Patti & Patrick McLead and Songbird Meadows and serenity and peace, beauty, comfort, love.  Those are some of the positive words that come to mind.  This is a place of healing and the McLeads are physicians.  Love you guys

"Wow… what a fabulous place!  First time ever to see a western scrub jay, beautiful night skies, deer playing around their feeder under a full moon and grilling on the barbeque is living life as it should.  If this is not heaven, you can see it from here.  Thanks so much to P&P for a wonderful visit.  We hope to see you all again."

"I had a fabulous , peaceful, quiet two days here @ Chickadee Cottage!  My three favorite things:  1.  Front porch w/ breeze & deer feeding, 2.  The hammock, 3.  The .5 trail.  The breakfast was great, too!  So fresh & yummy!  "I'll be back!"  Blessings,

Thank you both for your wonderful hospitality.  You made us feel so welcome.  You were so patient with us after we got lost a few times.  The peace & serenity of this place far exceeded our expectations – watching the feeding deer & hummingbirds was a therapy in itself.  Awesome breakfast.  We hope to return.  All the best.

"A male painted bunting only a few feet  away.  No bird is more beautiful!  A blue grosbeak calling for his mate.  A myriad of titmice, tanagers, doves, scrub jays and mockers.  A pair of bob-whites parading across the open field.  A spotted baby deer trying to get mom to stand still so he/she could have a meal too!  Even the skunk at “Golden -cheeked” station was beautiful – also harmless.  Jack-rabbits abound.  The roadrunner showed why that is his name!  Food was wonderful and creative.  Thanks for a great stay.  We plan to do it again!

"Ya know the saying "If you don’t stop and smell the roses, life will pass you by."  Songbird Meadows has allowed us to smell the 'roses'.  This place is magical and will always hold a special place in our hearts.   It allowed us to remember the basics of our souls.  Patti & Patrick are two beautiful people that have generously opened up their hearts and wonderful, peaceful land to us.  The wildlife, wind, and food provide such a peace and open love.  We were so well taken care of here.  I hope guests feel the same way we do.  I ask other guests to extend the same courtesy to Patti & Patrick.   Make sure they are taken care of as well.  Without Patti & Patrick there is no Songbird Meadows.  May the love for life they share to each of us make them stronger, each of us stronger and replenish and strengthen the energy of Songbird Meadows!

"What a wonderful and relaxing visit!  My husband and I were looking to get away for a weekend to reconnect with each other, nature and God.  We found all of those here and Songbird Meadows!  The cabin was perfect and Patti & Patrick were a joy – true Southern hospitality.  The breakfasts were delicious & we loved sitting on the front porch eating from our picnic basket.  We would highly recommend this place to others and I'm sure we will return again ourselves – thank you for sharing Songbird Meadows with us!" "What a lovely, relaxing place.  I loved the cabin. It's so comfortable and had everything we needed.  I enjoyed waking up to the serene, calm, quiet morning.  Sitting out on the porch watching the deer @ the feeder, the jack rabbits hopping around, and taking a stroll along all the trails you've made.  Patti & Patrick are two of the sweetest people I've ever met.  The breakfast was hot & delicious!  Enjoyed the juice, biscuits, & the fruit.  Great coffee too!  This is a place we would definitely like to come back to.  P.S. The bed is Awesome"

"What a wonderful spot for a get-away!  The property is so pretty and full of the magical sounds we don’t get in the city.  I especially enjoyed waking up to all the different bird songs and watching the hummingbirds attack the feeder.  The cabin is so cozy and comfy.  Couldn’t have had a better night's sleep!  Love those sheets.  The breakfast was yummy.  We'll be back!"

"This was such a lovely getaway from the city.  Patti & Patrick are warm, wonderful people who know how to welcome guests.  They also hook-up a nice breakfast!    Was happy to see our first roadrunner!  He walked calmly by our porch.  The sounds of silence with a few birds chirping coupled with a very nice breeze made this a memorable experience.  Thanks"
